When your dear son graduated high school, sent him a new wallet with gift cards and food gift certificates inside. Add a bit of humor and fill the wallet up a bit more, find an old baseball card of his from when he played little league, and a laminated card from Hallmark about "the Graduate". As he's moving long distance to go to college, this was something small that could go with him, and useful once he got there.
