Even very little children can make these easy homemade gifts. All you need is inexpensive supplies and an afternoon of creative crafting and you will be able to create various interesting gifts for family members and friends. Braided Shoelaces At first you need to knot three 36" strands of embroidery floss together a half an inch from one end. The knot then should be pined to a pillow or clipped to the fridge with a magnet. IT is necessary to provide maximum tension as you work. Then start braiding, bringing the left strand over the middle strand, then the right strand over this new middle strand, untangling the long ends as you go.
Once the desired length has been reached you need to knot all ends of the strand together leaving a half inch beyond knot. Then, to form a firm single strand you need to rub its ends with your fingertips. Dip this, up to the knot, into nail polish for easy threading when inserting laces.
Take the floss of the same colors and braid another shoelace to make a pair. If you want to create thicker shoelaces you need to put two strands of floss together which should be used as one. Layered Bath Salts You will need to take the following items: small jars, such as baby food jars, 6 bowls for mixing, a bag of Epsom salts, food coloring, a funnel, a spoon, paper doily or fabric scrap, rubber band. With a help of a funnel you need to fill the jars with Epsom salts is order to determine the needed amount of the Epsom salt. Now empty the Epsom salts, more or less equally, into six bowls. Then add e few drops of food coloring to each bowl and stir it to make yellow, pink, blue, green, mauve and orange colored salts. (Don't worry...the food coloring will not stain bathtubs or people) A great advice: Add to the rest several drops of fragrance oil or pour a few drops of your favorite perfume.
With the help of the funnel you should make colored layers of Epsom salt in each jar to create sand art. Then use the spoon to pack each layer down before you start adding the next layer and make sure the jar is filled to the top before you screw the lid on tightly. To decorate the lid of the jar you can use a circle of fabric or a paper doily which can be fixed in place with a rubber band. Finally, cover the rubber band with ribbon.
